The paper describes the analysis of main transport protocols of
TCP/IP suite: User / Datagram Protocol (UDP) and Transmission
Control Protocol (TCP). It shows their main characteristics,
advantages and disadvantages. The topics covered include the
algorithm of virtual channel establishment and congestion
avoidance techniques. The effectiveness of two TCP-versions TCP
Pseudo-Rate and TCP-NewReno has been shown by comparing
them with other transport protocols, like TCP-Tahoe and TCP-
Reno.
